Digital Material Specifications

Digital ad material must meet the following specifications in order to be used by Black Rock Advertising for printing purposes. If you have any questions about these guidelines please feel free to call our production department and speak to one of our designers.

Important to remember:

• South Shore Magazine/ Charles River Magazine files are built in QuarkXPress on a Macintosh platform. Therefore using other layout programs such as Pagemaker, Publisher, Appleworks, etc. to layout your ads is not recommended, especially if you are working on a PC platform.
• The South Shore Magazine/ Charles River Magazine production staff is available to design and produce your ad for you. Remember that the higher the quality of the originals you submit the higher the quality of the ad you will see printed. Submitting pre-printed materials from which to scan photographs is not recommended.
• You must submit a laser proof of the ad, whether it be black & white or color, with your disk.
• All colors in your file must be defined as CMYK. No spot colors should be present in your ad layout or your art files.
• All fonts that you use in your file must be on your disk. Adobe Type 1 screen and printer fonts are the acceptable format for the printer, please do not use True Type fonts.

Acceptable removable media:

• Compact disk or 100/250 MB Zip disk

Acceptable file formats:

• Layout - QuarkXPress
• Photos/Artwork - Photoshop TIFF or EPS files
• Must be at least 300 dpi (1200 for line art or bitmap images)
• Must be CMYK separations
